Detailed Production Process

 

The production of Metal Slot Cable Trays strictly follows the process flow below to ensure coating quality and product life:

1. Substrate Pretreatment
After the tray body is formed by bending, punching, and welding, surface pretreatment is carried out:

  • Degreasing: Removes residual oil, cutting fluid from processing.
  • Rust removal / phosphating: For ordinary cold-rolled steel, pickling or sandblasting is used to remove rust, followed by phosphating or silanization to form a dense conversion film, enhancing coating adhesion and overall corrosion resistance. Hot-dip galvanized substrates only require mild cleaning and passivation.

2. Electrostatic Powder Spraying
The pretreated tray is hung on the production line. An electrostatic spray gun charges the powder coating (epoxy resin, polyester resin, or epoxy-polyester hybrid) negatively. Under the action of a high-voltage electrostatic field, the powder is uniformly attracted to the grounded tray surface. Powder particle size is typically 20~60 microns, and an ideal thickness (60~120μm) is achieved in a single spray pass.

3. High-Temperature Curing
The sprayed tray enters a curing oven, heated to 180~200°C and held for 10~20 minutes. The powder coating melts, levels, and cross-links at high temperature, forming a continuous, dense, high-hardness coating. After cooling, a smooth, uniformly colored finished product is obtained.

4. Inspection and Packaging
The cured trays undergo coating thickness measurement, adhesion test (cross-cut method), impact test, and salt spray test. Qualified products are stacked and packaged according to the packaging specifications described earlier.

Maintenance and Care Guide

1. Regular Cleaning

  • Frequency: Every 6-12 months in normal indoor environments; every 3 months in dusty or mildly corrosive environments.

  • Method: Use a soft cloth, sponge, or soft brush with neutral detergent (diluted dish soap or dedicated plastic/metal cleaner) to wipe the surface. Do not use steel wool, hard brushes, or abrasive cleaners to avoid scratching the coating.
  • Stubborn stains: Wipe locally with 75% alcohol or isopropyl alcohol, then rinse with clean water and dry.

2. Avoid Mechanical Damage

  • When working near the tray, avoid hitting or scratching the coating with tools or equipment. For minor scratches, use a powder coating touch-up pen (or special repair paint) to seal the spot and prevent moisture penetration to the substrate.
  • Do not weld or cut metal directly on the tray, as high-temperature spatter will damage the coating.

3. Prevent Chemical Attack

Powder coating resists common weak acids and alkalis, but avoid prolonged contact with strong solvents (e.g., acetone, ethyl acetate, concentrated acids/alkalis). If chemical liquid spills occur, rinse immediately with clean water and dry.

4. Electrical Maintenance Notes

The powder coating has excellent insulating properties, so the tray system must ensure electrical continuity through dedicated ground bonding jumpers or paint-scraping design at bolt connections. Regularly check the reliability of ground connections.

5. Environmental Monitoring

In long-term high humidity or condensation environments, ensure the tray cover is well sealed to prevent moisture from accumulating at microscopic coating defects. If blistering or rust spots are found, grind the area locally and recoat promptly.
